In a thrilling close fight, England beat India by 9 runs in the finals of the Women’s World Cup being played at Lord’s ground, London on Sunday.
After winning the toss, England opted to bat first and gave India the target of 229 runs to win. India were cruising comfortably with 190 for three. However, Anya Shrubsole brought England back to match by clinching 6 wickets for 46 runs and India lost all wickets for 219.
England’s dreams of victory looked to be slipping away when Poonam Raut was batting brilliantly. But when the 27-year-old opener fell lbw to Shrubsole for 86 the wheels came off the innings.
Wickets fell regularly as the pressure grew and when India needed 11 to win from the final 12 balls the match was wide open.
Shrubsole had Deepti Sharma caught by Natalie Sciver off the first ball of the over and then bowled Rajeshwari Gayakwad to give England a famous win.
