To ensure that females do not face any problems in terms of hygiene and convenience during their menstrual cycle, three girls from Sandip Institute of Technology and Research Centre’s Department of Electronics and Telecommunication have made sanitary napkin vending machines. Seven of these machines will now be installed by the University within their campus in Nashik.
Kajal Patil, Pratiksha Patil and Akanksha Sangle were in their final year when they had prepared Sanitary napkin vending machines with the help and guidance of the faculty members within Sandip University. They had done a yearlong research and study to prepare this project and after they passed out from college in 2016, the University decided to provide a platform for them to display their product.
Kajal Patil, one of the ex-students, said “We had visited many colleges for such vending machines and we wanted to include some unique elements. So we added an LED display that will help with instructions on how to use the machine especially for first timers this would be very useful. It is both battery operated and as plug in, the battery can last for upto 10-12 hours. Another highlight is the maintenance that we are providing. These machines usually stop functioning after they run out of sanitary napkins. We will ensure that it is maintained well.”
The students were glad that they received such an opportunity from Sandip University. “Initially, the faculty helped us with the programming and after our project was complete they have now decided to install it within the campus. We are really elated at the platform that has been offered to us by the University, they have supported our initiative even after we have passed out from the university. We are really grateful for the love and support,” said Akanksha Sangle.
Dr Sandip Jha, Chairman, Sandip University, said. “As part of our initiative to make the campus technology friendly, we decided to install the vending machines within the campus itself. The credit of this machine goes to the efficiency and talent by the students. We are just a medium through which their work is being projected. We shall support and encourage them and make them the role models for our future generation. The hard work of the seniors will be useful to the current batch of students and they will also be inspired by the girls.”
